DHL has
seen efficiency at its Dutch distribution centre increase by 25 per cent through the use
‘smart glasses’ in the order-picking process. Staff at the
distribution centre wore the glasses, developed by Ubimax, for three weeks whilst carrying out their work. This proved to boost productivity.
“An order-picking process supported by augmented reality proved to be
considerably more productive. The technology is a great support to our
operations and offers our customers real added value”, says Jan-Willem De
Jong, Business Unit Director Technology at DHL Supply Chain, Benelux. De Jong sees a major role for augmented reality. “This is
just the first step in our innovation strategy. We are convinced that
augmented reality will become increasingly important across more and more areas of the supply
chain.”
