Parcel service provider DPD is having a distribution centre built to deliver parcels in the Greater Amsterdam region faster. An automated sorting machine should substantially upgrade capacity in the DC.
DPD engaged Goodman Netherlands to build the new distribution centre. The building will be located on a four-hectare plot in the De Nieuwe Liede industrial estate, near Amsterdam. The distribution centre will cover an area of 11,213 square metres and provide space to dock 25 LHV trucks and 122 delivery vans.
Network modernisation in the Netherlands
DPD is busy modernising its network in the Netherlands. From the central (inter)national hubs, parcels are redistributed to depots. Amsterdam is the first depot to be organised in this way. An automated sorting machine should significantly increase capacity. "Thanks to the new depot in Amsterdam, we secure our service in terms of speed and flexibility. In addition, this is to nice step to realise same-day-delivery," says Eric Dietz, ceo DPD Netherlands.
Construction of two DCs for lease
Goodman will start construction of the new distribution centre this summer. The real estate group will develop two more distribution centres totalling 45,000 square metres, available for lease, at this location in the second part of 2019.
