Fource Logistics started the construction of a new central distribution centre in Berkel en Rodenrijs on Tuesday. The 50,000-square-metre building should be ready for use by the end of 2021.
The service provider for car companies is centralising all logistics activities in Berkel en Rodenrijs. The operations in Amsterdam, Hoevelaken, Schiedam and Venlo will move to the new building at Oudeland business park by 2021.
The building is nicknamed 'The Bridge', referring to the central entrance on the first floor, which houses almost all support facilities such as offices, changing rooms, canteen and training rooms. The remaining 49,000 square metres will be set up as warehouse space.
Automation
The warehouse will be equipped with a fully automated shuttle system and controlled by a new WMS. "Getting our products to our customers even faster, that is ultimately the goal. With this combination of technologies, we can really make a difference to that," indicates sales director Johan van der Hoeven. "I think it's great that we as an organisation are taking this step. We want to stay at the forefront and with this CDC we can certainly achieve that."
BREEAM Excellent
Fource Logistics is aiming for sustainability label BREEAM Excellent in the construction. The roof will be fitted with solar panels, making the building completely self-sufficient.
