Geodis is investing hundreds of millions of euros in a new mega distribution centre in Venlo. The France-based logistics provider says it is full to the brim and needs extra space, especially for e-commerce customers.
Geodis, which recorded a turnover of 8.4 billion euros in 2020, has secured 21.5 hectares of land at Trade Port Noord business park. A 130,000-square-metre distribution centre will arise here. The subsidiary of rail group SNCF wants to use the extra space to keep up with the strong growth of customers in e-commerce. The global player already has four locations in Venlo, with a total area of 123,000 square metres.
The construction costs of the new warehouse amount to around 130 million euros, experts expect based on land and building costs. To the FD, Geodis says that this is a plausible amount, which does not yet take into account the costs for the interior and IT.
The premises will offer employment to around 350 to 400 people. Due to the tight labour market, attracting sufficient staff will be a challenge, Geodis expects.
Construction work started next year; when the DC will be put into operation is not yet known.
