Attract consumers to your online shop? Offer free delivery. This still appears to be the most important incentive to shop online more and more often. This is according to research among 1,400 US consumers by research firm Walkers Sands.

A whopping 88 per cent of US consumers surveyed say free delivery is their biggest desire. This can hardly be called news: the desire for free delivery has routinely been at the top of the wish list in recent years.

The biggest riser in terms of people is same-day delivery, which has increased significantly in several shops in recent years. An easy return process is also increasingly appreciated. 49 per cent of consumers say they would be more likely to order from an online shop with a same-day delivery policy. What is striking is that only 9 per cent of those surveyed still only use this service, something that tentatively indicates that same-day delivery is sought-after, but far from always offered.
