Logistics concern Katoen Natie is investing eighty million euros in the construction of warehouses and silos in the Netherlands. In Geleen, Limburg, 54,500 square metres of warehouse space will rise.
To this end, the Belgian company has bought 12 hectares at Chemelot chemistry park in Geleen, near Sittard. Katoen Natie is building 54,500 square metres of warehouses and 207 silos there. The multi-customer terminal will be used for the storage, repackaging, screening, compounding and compacting of polymers and other chemical products. The platform should be operational in a year's time.
With the investments in the Netherlands, Katoen Natie says it wants to strengthen its position as a service provider to the European chemical industry. The location of the Chemelot chemical park, close to the Belgian and German border, contributes to this. From the location, Katoen Natie can serve the Ruhr region and Eastern Europe, among others.
In parallel with the investments at Chemelot, Katoen Natie is expanding its logistics terminal in Nuth with 10,000 square metres of warehouse space and 60 silos. This is expected to be completed by the end of 2019. It has also acquired a plot of land on Mitsubishi Avenue in Born, where Katoen Natie is building a 35,000-square-metre warehouse.
The company is also investing in transport capacity for the region this year, expanding its existing vehicle fleet with the purchase of 115 new tractors, 45 new dry bulk trucks and 10 new liquid tanks.
