The proliferation of distribution centres must be countered. That is the opinion of minister Kajsa Ollongren (Home Affairs). According to Ollongren, distribution centres are causing 'cluttering and shedding' of the Dutch landscape.
In the Draft National Environmental Vision (NVOI) that Ollongren sent to the House of Representatives on Thursday, the minister writes that shedding puts pressure on the landscape quality in the Netherlands.
The proliferation of distribution centres must therefore be countered. "A succession of large-scale, uniform storage and distribution centres along national roads must be prevented as much as possible. "The government wants to make agreements with municipalities and provinces on the construction of new logistics centres.
Ollongren has a different vision when it comes to urban logistics. Instead, the minister advocates building small-scale distribution centres on the edges of cities. These can be used to tranship goods so that inner cities are supplied emmission-free.
