Montapacking will soon open a tenth distribution centre. In Lelystad, the e-fulfilment company is moving into the former dc of vtwonen.nl, a relatively new building of 10,000 square metres.

Montapacking handles logistics for more than six hundred web shops in the Netherlands. New warehouses are needed to ensure the growth ambitions, says founder Edwin van der Ham. One large warehouse is not optimal for this purpose. "Both physical distances, as well as the distance between the customer and the people doing the work in our organisation, then become too big. By definition, a smaller unit has much greater commitment and enthusiasm."

Near Amsterdam

The building in Flevoland covers 10,000 square metres and was used by vtwonen.nl for the past two years. "A branch close to the headquarters of web shops is always nice. Lelystad is under the smoke of Amsterdam, where many of our customers are based."

Reducing stock levels

Van der Ham expects his company's order numbers to continue to grow faster than the area of its DC branches in the coming years. "This is succeeding because we are using algorithms to help our customers get better and better at reducing their stock levels, while their stock availability remains at least the same."

The director aims to reduce the average stock per customer by around a third in the coming years. The smaller cell structure and artificial intelligence should contribute to this. "This is also good news for us, as more customers can be served from the existing distribution centres."
