Neele-Vat Logistics is investing millions in the construction of two new distribution centres in the Rotterdam region. The new locations offer room for growth and sustainable robot solutions.

So writes Warehouse Totaal in an interview with chairman Ruud Vat. The logistics service provider is building a 34,000-square-metre distribution centre in Waalhaven. On the Second Maasvlakte, a 22,000-square-metre building is being built.

"We are far from being outgrown," says Vat about the expansion. Neele-Vat currently has 20 branches in nine countries and accounts for net sales of €250 million.

Robotisation for public warehouses

The company also wants to make strides in the field of robotisation, with Vat aiming for 'sustainable solutions'. The chairman mentions the tension between the investment in robotisation and the agreements with shippers. The current robot solutions are often aimed at dedicated warehouses. To recoup the investment, long-term agreements need to be concluded, something shippers are not eager to do. Vat has therefore asked suppliers of internal transport to help think about robot solutions for public warehouses.
