Agro
Merchants is set to expand and is currently working on a new distribution centre.
The new distribution centre is being built on the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam and will accommodate 18,000
pallet spaces.
The warehouse will be primarily equipped for the import, export and
storage of both frozen and chilled meat and fish. As it utilises
mobile racking, the new cold store and freezer warehouse will be very compact
. It is important that the racking units are individually accessible so that
products that reach their use-by date first can be removed from the warehouse
can leave the warehouse. In addition to the mobile racking for pallets, there will also be space for additional services, such as
packaging and shock freezing. To ensure the mobile pallet systems operate efficiently
, data from the WMS will be utilised. This will enable trucks
be tracked and aisles opened autonomously.
Sustainability
The centre is due to come into operation around December this year
. Agro Merchants aims to make the new distribution centre as sustainable as possible. The premises will receive BREEAM Excellent certification. This is the highest
for this type of facility in Europe.
, a multinationalcompany, has a total of 55 branches in eight
different countries across North America, Latin America and Europe. The total
storage capacity amounts to more than 700,000 square metres.
