Parcel carrier DPD is keen to expand and has the perfect location in mind to do so. The company plans to invest 100 million euros in a new logistics depot in Oirschot. That means the company will leave Best, where DPD's head office is momentarily housed.
Due to regional agreements, it is not possible for the parcel carrier to expand at its current location in Best. It could only do so at the Goederen Distributiecentrum business park in Eindhoven, but the company had no ears for that. The space offered in the City of Light is too small and does not meet the company's requirements. Indeed, DPD expects to grow further in the future and would soon have to look for a new location again.
Exception due to interests
Due to major regional interests, DPD may now move to Westfields business park in Oirschot. According to the administrative region Stedelijk Gebied, as the cooperation between nine regional municipalities is called, DPD's importance for the region is so great and by sticking to the agreements, the region would lose a lot of money if DPD turned its back completely on the province of Brabant.
Redevelopment in Oirschot
The arrival of giant DPD has caused the municipality to now look into redeveloping the business park. DPD has big plans and wants to build a 27-hectare plot at the business park with a logistics terminal whose cost is estimated at €100 million.
Good connection to motorways
The CEO of DPD, Michaël van Ooijen, sees a lot of potential in the new location: "We have been orientating ourselves for some time on a new site to support our current and future growth. Westfields Business Park is important for the region. An interesting location between the Randstad, the Ruhr and Belgium, with good access to various motorways."
If all plans are approved, construction will start in 2016.
