Prologis' distribution centre in Tilburg, used by logistics service provider Pantos Logistics, has received the WELL Certificate Gold. The building is said to have an optimal design for warehouse staff.
According to Prologis, it is the first time the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) has awarded a certification of such a level to a fully equipped distribution centre. The WELL Certificate focuses on a pleasant and healthy working environment. Arthur van Kooij, head of Project Management Northern Europe at Prologis, says: "Interior and exterior are designed as one, with common facilities for all employees. You feel the effect of this immediately when you enter and experience the space."
Smart technology and sensors
Employees in DC5 can customise the comfort of their workplace through smart technology. Green zones purify the air and design concepts such as a green wall connect to the design of the building. Lighting with intelligent sensors and biodynamic control would make people feel more comfortable and energetic. Other sensors monitor air quality and indoor climate.
WELL Portfolio trial
"The change to a more people-oriented approach to logistics real estate is really an eye-opener, and with the insights we gain from this we are going to make our buildings even more attractive," Van Kooij said. Prologis may also start implementing these measures at other logistics properties. "Looking at the environmental and corporate social responsibility benefits, I hope that a number of WELL principles will soon become standard for logistics real estate."
