In Germany, truck drivers are not allowed to drive on Saturday 3 October. On that day, our eastern neighbours celebrate German Unity Day.
According to EVO, this concerns vehicles with a maximum permitted weight of more than 7.5 tonnes and for all trucks with trailers. This applies to all weights. The ban lasts from 0.00 to 22.00.
Previous years, the ban on 3 October caused an A1 full of trucks. These stood on the emergency lanes waiting to be allowed back into Germany. It is therefore advisable to look for a surrounding car park in time to avoid traffic jams. Drivers who do cross the border can expect a fine after a check on the German side.
