Tilburg can no longer meet the demand for large plots for distribution centres. Logistics companies would often knock on the municipality's door for plots of 5 hectares and more. That space is just not there anymore, the Brabants Dagblad writes on the basis of information from the Municipal Executive.
XXL distribution centres in North Brabant are in demand, research by Buck Consultants International recently showed. Since 2013, as many as 28 XXL DCs, with an area of more than 40,000 square metres, have been built in the Netherlands, most of them in North Brabant.

Moving out to neighbouring municipalities
Now that it is so popular with international customers, Tilburg does not want to have to sell 'no'. Therefore, the logistics hotspot is consulting with neighbouring municipalities to refer companies there. For instance, the shortage of space in Tilburg offers opportunities for Waalwijk. There, they are sympathetic to new growth because there is still plenty of space at Haven Acht industrial estate, where Bol.com's sustainable distribution centre is being built. The municipality does not yet have any ready-to-build plots there, as it develops plots only when there is concrete demand or sale.
Waalwijk expects the logistics companies to create jobs. "Jobs for people with high and low education," said Ronald Bakker of the Waalwijk municipality.
