IDS announces that it will integrate BigMile into its Freight Forwarding and Control Tower solutions. With this collaboration, both organisations join forces to provide IDS' customers with data, reporting and advice on CO2 emissions and reduction in transport.
With the advent of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), a large group of companies will be required to report on their sustainability performance from 2025. Some of them are already required to do so. It is expected that eventually more and more organisations will have to, and, due to market demand and brand reputation, also want to combine growth with various sustainability initiatives.
From data via insight to action
Continuous improvement is in IDS's DNA. "Every day we assist customers in navigating towards smart transport choices, such as reducing empty miles by cleverly combining freights and shipments. All with the aim of increasing performance, reducing costs and now increasingly reducing CO2 emissions," says Leon de Koning, managing director of IDS.
As a logistics control tower, IDS organises and directs inbound and/or outbound transport for its customers. To this end, the company works with a large number of carriers. Sometimes this is with an already existing carrier from the customer, other times a selected carrier from IDS' large network of country specialists. "For years, we have also made calculations regarding CO2 emissions visible via dashboards in the process and we discuss these in Performance Review Meetings. A lot of experience that we are taking to the next phase," De Koning says.
IDS is entering that next phase with the integration of BigMile. "The partnership with BigMile ensures that, as a non-asset and independent supply chain director, we can now truly incorporate transport competitively into our customers' various sustainability strategies and goals."
CO2Trackr
For organisations, the journey starts with mapping the current situation. For this purpose, IDS has developed the CO2Trackr. Based on historical data, the CO2Trackr provides insight into the current carbon footprint, and then uses simulations to plot the route to savings potential. "BigMile's tooling is exactly what we are looking for, namely a digital solution that allows us to translate hard data and 'what-if' scenarios at shipment level directly into insight and action," King said.
Well prepared
Jan Pronk, managing director of BigMile, says of the collaboration: "Climate change is a global problem that requires cross-border supply chain solutions. Then IDS' transport directors can look at the data and analytics from BigMile with customers to identify initiatives that reduce emissions."
In addition, Pronk stresses that, in view of the upcoming CO2 reporting legislation, the software solution is ISO compliant. "We expect ISO14083 to become the new, international standard in the calculation and allocation of CO2 emissions. Companies and institutions are well prepared for the future with BigMile."
