Welkoop is moving its distribution activities from Ede to Apeldoorn. There, the retail chain is moving into a 20,000-square-metre logistics centre.

VolkerWessels Logistics Development (VWLD) is responsible for the construction of the new building. The building plans include a 3,500-square-metre service office, a 20,000-square-metre distribution centre and a car park for about 180 parking spaces.

From October 2020, Welkoop wants to be operational at Bedrijvenpark Apeldoorn Noord 2. The current service office and distribution centre in Ede will then close their doors. In the new logistics centre, Welkoop will handle both the supply of shops and the logistics for its online activities.

In Apeldoorn, Welkoop has the much-needed extra square metres at its disposal. "The extra 7,000 square metres compared to our current location is necessary given our growth in turnover, range and volume," says Yvonne Tiberius of Welkoop. "Our new building in Apeldoorn Noord is centrally located in relation to our shops and is also conveniently close to the A1 and A50 motorways."

Construction of the new building will start in October 2019.
