With all the technological developments, IT is becoming less and less the junior child of logistics. Indeed, the entire logistics process seems to depend on the right technology. Eft (Eyefortransport) asked 130 US logistics companies about their investments in technology. This shows that logistics service providers are increasingly budgeting for IT.
This year, most of that budget goes to a Transport Management System (TMS), while last year the Warehouse Management System (WMS) was still a priority. Logistics service providers also see a greater role for Business Intelligence and Big Data this year, whereas last year little attention was paid to this.

What is striking is that ldvs seem to be struggling with truly innovative technologies. Indeed, robots, self-driving cars and 3D printers or drones are not on the wish list for this year for 62 per cent of respondents.
