City transporters City Hub and 2Dok want to boost sustainable urban distribution by opening city hubs on the edges of cities at a rapid pace. The two organisations will continue together under the name 'City Hub, your green connection'. In June, the new organisation will launch a crowdfunding campaign to accelerate its expansion.

City Hub has been operating since 2015 as a link between large-scale transport and zero-emission urban logistics. By accommodating large freight volumes on the outskirts of cities, it contributes to clean and liveable cities. The aim is to supply shops, restaurants and institutions with whisper-quiet and electrically powered vehicles. 2Dok is active in The Hague with the same aim. This week, the two parties signed a letter of intent to move forward together.

Crowdfunding to accelerate expansion

No later than 1 June, 'City Hub, your green connection' will launch a crowdfunding campaign. This campaign should raise funds to optimise, accelerate IT development and create new locations. Thus, the new organisation aims to open branches on the outskirts of cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants at a rapid pace.

Livable cities

"More and more cities are locking down fossil fuel-powered vehicles," says Gerard Gerritsen, CEO of City Hub Holding. "Thanks to our initiative to create hubs on the edges of cities, large cargo volumes no longer need to go into cities. With electric shipping and vehicles, we contribute to cleaner and liveable cities. Moreover, we provide jobs for people with a distance to the labour market."

According to the organisation, the city hubs can be of interest to parties active in bulk transport and companies and institutions with a need to facilitate transhipment and transport, without their own logistics expertise or care for storage."Our organisations share the vision that, with our logistics platform, we can put an end to the endless flow of individual logistics service providers all looking after their own freight," says Frans-Luuk Bouwers, COO of 2Dok. "With the help of smart software, we will ensure less congestion on the roads, less congestion in the cities and a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions."
