Four logistics service providers from the automotive sector are launching a digital platform based on blockchain technology. The platform makes all steps of the logistics chain for new and used vehicles transparent.

Today's logistics infrastructure within the automotive sector is based on various applications and information flows. This makes it impossible for parties in the chain to track vehicles during their journey to a car dealership. One of the risks parties face here is an increased risk of fraud during cross-border processes within Europe.

Four logistics service providers, united in consortium Vinturas, want to create visibility in the supply chain with a digital platform based on blockchain technology. Vinturas digitises all aspects of the logistics chain within Europe, from manufacturer to dealer, for both new and used vehicles.

Technology partner IBM

Underpinning the initiative are Autolink Group, Axess Logistics, Koopman Logistics Group and NVD. Ceo of Vinturas is Jon Kuiper, former top executive at Koopman Logistics Group. "Vinturas aims to become the leading platform for Finished Vehicle Logistics," says Kuiper. "We strongly believe in the power of collaboration. The launch of Vinturas by four renowned logistics providers, and our choice of IBM as technology partner, underlines our long-term commitment to provide added value to all parties involved." IBM guarantees secure data sharing, reliable and non-modifiable data and a digital file containing all data generated by the vehicle in the logistics chain.

Open ecosystem

The launch of Vinturas is scheduled for September 2019. The platform should then be available in a large number of European countries. Vinturas will be accessible to all parties active in Finished Vehicle Logistics, with the initiators calling on software companies, logistics service providers and other providers to join Vinturas. "Broad collaboration has great benefits for all parties involved, such as the possibility of data sharing within a secure distributed blockchain infrastructure."
