Trade association International Apparel Federation(IAF) wants to reduce CO2 emissions in fashion worldwide. The 'CO2 Improve' initiative aims to support players in the industry in greening their logistics activities.

"The fashion supply chain involves the entire world, therefore logistics in the fashion industry almost by definition leads to a very high level of pollution," says Han Bekke, president of the IAF, which supports industry associations in more than 60 countries. "With strong growing attention from consumers, governments and NGOs, while individual companies are willing, they are also struggling to do better."

IAF wants to help the fashion industry on its way. The focus is on reducing CO2 emissions, rather than offsetting them. The trade association offers member industry organisations a service package to help companies measure and then reduce their CO2 emissions in logistics, through individual improvements and collective industry projects, working closely with Greenway Logistics, experts in fashion logistics, and data analysis experts .

According to IAF, the first countries and industry associations have already signed up. The suite of services should put an end to "the chaos created by the ever-increasing number of national and generic monitoring systems". With a global industry standard, a level playing field can be created for the entire market, IAF said.
