Jumbo has opened a third e-fulfilment centre (EFC) in Bleiswijk. During 2021, households in Noord-Holland, Zuid-Holland and Zeeland will be delivered from this location.
Earlier this year, the supermarket chain partially commissioned the premises. During a so-called 'ramp-up' period, the EFC was filled with products and the delivery area increased step by step. The location is now fully operational.

"The online grocery market has grown very fast recently, accelerated by the corona situation, among others," says supply chain director Karel de Jong. "Jumbo is a major player in this market and we want to continue to meet the needs of our customers. To achieve that, we are constantly expanding our online organisation and delivery network."
Fewer kilometres
The new EFC complements the existing centres in Den Bosch and Raalte and ensures better distribution of online delivery capacity. De Jong: "This means that we travel far fewer kilometres than before to deliver groceries to their [customers'] homes, which contributes to reducing our CO2 emissions."

Sustainability
The fulfilment centre was built to the BREEAM Outstanding standard, including by choosing sustainable and energy-saving measures. Some 15,500 solar panels have been installed on the roof. The indoor climate was also considered. An air freshening system tunes the air to each accommodation area and a lighting plan automatically adjusts the light in the various rooms to the light coming from outside.
