Zalando on Friday sent the first parcel from its new fulfilment centre in Bleiswijk, north of Rotterdam. The 140,000-square-metre distribution centre should significantly reduce the etailer's average delivery time.
Logistics service provider Ingram Micro runs Zalando's first Dutch distribution centre. Around 1,500 employees will eventually start working there. With an area of 140,000 square metres, this is Zalando's largest logistics site in Europe. The premises will enable Zalando to deliver orders in the Benelux more often the next day. Eventually, it hopes to introduce same-day delivery as well.

Zalando now has 13 logistics locations spread across seven European countries. The company is betting heavily on further growth: construction work on new fulfilment centres in Germany, Poland and France is about to start or has recently started.
