The roof of Axell Logistics in Etten-Leur is covered with three football fields of solar panels. With 5,000 solar panels, the logistics service provider supplies itself and hundreds of households with green electricity.
The distribution centre in Etten-Leur now has one of the largest roof systems with solar panels in West Brabant. By being self-sufficient in energy, Axell Logistics hopes to make the family business future-proof. "Such a measure is a win-win: we avoid 1 million kilos of CO2 emissions a year ánd it saves on our energy bill," says business development director Richard Massop, who admits that installing the panels was quite an operation.
The logistics service provider is busy reducing its footprint. For instance, it is installing LED lighting with motion sensors in its warehouses. The company already drives cleaner diesel engines (Euro 6), but says it is exploring how it can further reduce its footprint with new techniques. "Making it more sustainable is a process and there is always room for improvement," says Massop.
