The Port of Rotterdam, ABN Amro, and Samsung SDS have sent a container from Korea to the Netherlands with blockchain technology. The container was traceable from door to door and was shipped paperless and immediately funded.
The container trip was part of blockchain concept Deliver. With the project, the parties wanted to demonstrate that blockchain technology enables interoperability and the integration of container traceability systems, cargo paper processing and financing can be carried out paperless within a secure environment.
Next phase
After completing the journey from Korea to Nedderland, the Port of Rotterdam ABN Amro and Samsung SDS signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement for the next phase of Deliver. The ultimate goal is to establish an open, independent and global platform for shippers.
"This will improve the transparency and efficiency of supply chains and potentially lead to millions of euros in cost savings in the long term," ABN Amro said in a statement. "In this phase, we are exploring ways in which this can be shaped. In doing so, we take into account all possible business models."
