Fashion retailer Zara is placing robots in the warehouses of its physical shops. The robots will search the warehouses for parcels ordered online and then give them to the customer.
Pick-up points in Zara shops are often crowded. One in three online orders is picked up in the physical shop. This would lead to hefty queues. Last year, parent company Inditex announced that it wanted to automate the pick-up points. It is now rolling out these systems in shops.
Customers who want to collect their online order can scan the barcode or key in the collection code at a collection point. The robot then retrieves it from the warehouse. According to the Wall Street Journal, a number of systems are live. A Zara in London is already working with the robot helpers.
