EBay is discontinuing the ability to have orders delivered on the same day. Customers could opt for the option of same-day parcel delivery via an app called Now. This app has now been removed from the App Store.

According to the trading platform, the service is too expensive and is not considered necessary by eBay consumers. Same-day-delivery is more applicable to groceries, according to CEO John Donahoe. The company now wants to focus more on click-and-collect, working with collection points.

Reducing costs
Incidentally, eBay is not eliminating same-day delivery entirely. The e-retailer is currently investigating how the logistics costs of the service can be reduced. The results of this investigation may lead to same-day delivery being offered on eBay’s website once again.

Grand plans
eBay began testing same-day delivery in San Francisco in 2012. The service was subsequently rolled out across the rest of the US. Earlier this year, eBay still had ambitious plans for same-day delivery. The aim was to be operating the app in 25 markets by the end of 2014.
