Lidl now seems to be making real work of a webshop. The supermarket discounter currently sells mainly travel in the Netherlands, but wants to expand its range.

The launch of the webshop was initially planned for the first quarter of 2016. That seems to be running out nicely. As in Belgium, the supermarket chain initially plans to offer wine and non-food items. Online orders would be delivered from Germany by DHL.

Insiders tell Distrifood that head office staff will test the online shop in the coming period. The supermarket chain would not confirm this, but a spokesperson does reveal that it is working hard to flesh out e-commerce. "We are definitely working on that with a team behind the scenes," spokesperson Christine Braun told Distrifood. The supermarket chain expects to have more clarity regarding the online shop this summer.
