Consumers want to be increasingly well informed about the delivery of a parcel. The number of parcels ordered online has grown significantly in recent years and with it, consumer demands have also increased. So says UPS's The Pulse of The Online Shopper survey of over 5,000 US consumers.

The survey shows that agreements on delivery are especially important. More and more online shops give you the option to choose your own delivery date and 72 per cent of respondents say they are very happy with this option. So a parcel does not have to arrive as soon as possible. If delivery is more convenient at a different time, this is preferred. 46 per cent say they have sometimes decided not to order a parcel after all because the order takes too long. Consumers more often expect the order to be delivered a day after purchase.

Need breaks law
When there is a real need, US consumers don't even mind paying for fast delivery. This mainly concerns specific circumstances such as: holidays or birthdays. The option to customise the delivery day is also increasingly used. More than half sometimes use the option to adjust. Consumers like to be in control and value the Track & Trace option. E-mail is still the most popular in this respect, according to the survey, but information via SMS is gaining ground. Especially among the younger generation.

Location
The convenience of having parcels delivered to your home address remains unchanged in popularity, especially among European customers. US consumers are increasingly having their parcels delivered to a retailer's branch, central collection point or to friends and family.
