Companies in transport and logistics take almost a month and a half to pay their bills. This makes companies in the industry among the very slowest payers, according to research by trade information company Graydon.
In the transport and logistics sector, bills are usually paid in 43.82 days, while the average payment term is 40.89 days. The average payment term in the Netherlands thus increased by 0.12 days in the third quarter of 2016. This is striking, as companies actually paid their bills faster in the past two years. "This quarter, for the first time, we see an increase in the number of days an invoice waits for payment," says Peter Schoenmaker, director of sales and development at Graydon. "Initiatives calling for better payment behaviour, from both politics and business, are all the more necessary not to lose our grip on the trend of ever improving payment behaviour. In this way, we can ensure that smaller companies in particular are also provided with sufficient liquidity."
Leasing companies and energy companies also tend to take a long time to pay. They take 44.06 and 42.94 days respectively.
