Bol.com launches delivery subscription à la Amazon Prime. Consumers can buy off delivery costs for 14.99 euros a year.

The 'Select' subscription applies to orders under 20 euros, same-day deliveries and evening and Sunday delivery. For 14.99 euros, customers get the three hundred thousand most ordered items delivered to their homes without additional shipping costs. These are items that are in bol.com's own warehouse. Later this year, the subscription will also become available for products from external sellers, for which bol.com handles fulfilment.

According to Daniel Ropers, managing director of bol.com, delivery charges can sometimes act as a barrier for consumers when it comes to using the various delivery options offered by the online retailer. “We are now doing our best to remove that barrier with the introduction of a delivery subscription.”

Customers who are not members of Select pay €1.99 in delivery charges for orders under €20. For same-day delivery, they pay an additional €2.49 on top of the standard delivery charges. Bol.com gives customers the option to join Select during the checkout process. The subscription is then valid for one year and ends if the customer does not renew it after that period.
