The first points for classification system LSCM have been handed out. The congress Successful Supply Chain Implementing held yesterday in Zwolle gave visitors five points. With these points, logisticians show that they engage in continuing education and thus stay on level.

Organisers BLMC and Windesheim University of Applied Sciences had a first with handing out the continuing education (pe) points. "This is the first event where the points are handed out, and we as a training institute are very happy with it," said Hans Baltjes, training manager of Logistics and Economics. Visitors to the congress can register with the classification system until 20 October to redeem their points.

More insight into logistics level
The LSCM classification system was created by the Logistics Management Association late last year to create more insight into the level of logistics professionals. The classification structure assesses logistics and supply chain professionals on their level of education, work experience, competences and the extent to which they keep their knowledge up to date. They are graded at levels LSCM start, 1, 2, 3 or 4. The idea is that this will allow employers to see at a glance which type and level of logisticians they are dealing with.

Refresher system
To maintain the same level in the classification system, logistics professionals must obtain 75 points in five years. Each point represents 1 hour of relevant knowledge. "This can range from attending a workshop at ICT & Logistiek to writing a substantive article," former vLm director Peter van der Sterre told us. The continuing education system should also ensure that logistics professionals remain more loyal to their profession. "The moment you invest in your career annually, you are less likely to make a career switch."
