Groningen wants to reduce the number of transport movements in the city centre with a logistics hub. From the recently opened Goederenhub Groningen Eelde (GHGE), goods flows are bundled and sustainably transported to Groningen's inner city.
The Goods Hub, an initiative of Binnenstadservice, is located in Eelde, next to the A28 motorway. Goods are bundled at this location south of the city of Groningen. Emission-free cars then provide the last mile to customers in Groningen's city centre.
An initial pilot will take place in Groningen city centre in the autumn. The GHGE ties in with the objectives of the Green Deal Zero Emission City Logistics, with which it has been agreed that Groningen will have an emission-free city centre by 2025. In time, the initiators hope to expand to Assen and the rest of the region.
