Dutch consumers often do not complete their online purchase when shipping costs are charged. Due to excessive shipping costs, 55 per cent of Dutch consumers regularly leave their digital shopping cart full.
According to research by SAP. Half of Dutch online shoppers say they regularly leave an online shop before placing their purchase. Especially with furniture and clothing, the purchase is often not completed. With entertainment products, consumers do complete the purchase.
Shipping costs cause high drop out rate
High shipping costs are the biggest objection of online shoppers in the Netherlands. Price comparisons also cause a higher drop-out rate. In addition, it seems important that online shops communicate well about stock levels. Sometimes the product can be put in the shopping basket, but later turns out to be sold out. 38 per cent of consumers do not return to purchase the item after all.
