Jumbo will start delivering groceries in Amsterdam from next week. The expansion follows shortly after the introduction of competitor Picnic throughout the capital.
Jumbo has been secretly delivering in Amsterdam-Noord for the past two weeks, according to the Parool. Next week, the supermarket chain will add Amsterdam-Centre. After that, the rest of the city will follow, although a spokesperson is not yet willing to give an exact date.
The grocer previously delivered on a small scale from a number of branches in Amsterdam. Now it does so from a hub in the Westelijk Havengebied. This also allows it to deliver to places where there is no shop yet. "This is also more efficient and sustainable than if we start driving different delivery vans from the shops," says Dr. Kang.
