At the Brainport Industries Campus (BIC) in Eindhoven, autonomous robot carts drive around in a simulated logistics environment. The parties behind the so-called Fieldlab want to test what robots can do for the productivity and throughput time of a logistics chain.

The Fieldlab on the Eindhoven campus is part of a study into the maximum achievable automation in the manufacturing industry. In a simulated logistics environment, it should become clear what self-driving trolleys can bring to the chain.

"Through automation and planning, faster delivery times and higher productivity can be achieved with fewer logistics resources and investments. We are building knowledge on simulating processes, mobile robots, using computers and coordinating the supply chain. We demonstrate this in our test environment, here at the BIC," programme manager Erik Vermeulen explains to the Eindhovens Dagblad.

The trial is supported by Brainport Industries, TU/e, Erasmus University, Brabant Development Company (BOM) and Eindhoven-based company KMWE, among others.
