Bol.com is prioritising essential products such as cleaning products and baby items in the coming period. Among other things, it wants to prevent processes from collapsing because distribution centres get too busy.

"We see it as our responsibility to meet consumers' demand for essential items besides food, such as soap, detergents and baby items including nappies, as best we can during this period," bol.com explained. "To ensure that these items, but successively also items for home working, learning and entertainment, remain widely available and can be delivered quickly, we are ensuring throughout our operations that this range is prioritised." Items outside that range may be delivered later or temporarily taken offline.

The platform says this measure will allow it to prevent safety and extra health measures in distribution centres. Bol.com's logistics are in the hands of partner Ingram Micro. Bol.com says it is in daily contact with Ingram Micro about measures that will protect employees in distribution centres as much as possible.

Measures carriers and suppliers

Measures have been drawn up for carriers and suppliers. For instance, a limited number of carriers are allowed on the floor at the same time. As a result, unloading waiting times may increase. No physical contact is allowed, including during the handing over of waybills, and drivers must use disinfectant hand gel both before and after unloading.

Logistics via bol.com

The e-commerce giant says fulfilment service 'Logistics via bol.com' is working as usual for partners. However, the number of orders is increasing, which may impact delivery times. Bol.com says it will initially delay delivery of its own range. "However, when necessary, unfortunately the delivery time for Logistics via bol.com assortment will also be extended. In doing so, items with social importance will be given priority."
