Amazon is gradually restarting its distribution centres in France. Around 30 per cent of employees will return to work there today.

That reports Reuters based on an agreement signed by French unions. Amazon closed its six distribution centres in France last month after a judge ruled it was not doing enough to protect employees from the corona virus. The e-tailer was only allowed to ship essential goods and would otherwise be fined. Amazon deemed the risk of that fine too high and decided to cease operations completely.

The logistics operation is now being restarted. Amazon's 10,600 employees will return to work in several phases. In the first phase, which lasts until next Monday, 50 per cent of the workforce will start working. The build-up of operational activities will last until 2 June.
