Red je Pakketje is moving to a new hub within Utrecht. The new location offers more space for delivery vans - badly needed after the parcel service grew by 120 per cent - and will have electric charging stations.
Red je Pakketje currently employs 120 people in its Utrecht hub. That number is set to double after the move. Since January, the parcel service recorded a 120 per cent growth; particularly due to the corona pandemic, many parcels had to be delivered.
Growing and greening
It is up to the logistics sector to grow with the popularity of e-commerce while making it more sustainable, says CEO Sam Rohn, with the delivery company aiming to deliver zero-emission by 2023. The new location provides space for charging stations for electric buses. "We want to show everyone in the market that the energy transition can be done much faster. We have been growing by more than 100 per cent a year since we were founded, taking the climate into account to the maximum extent possible."
At the new logistics hub in Utrecht, parcels arrive in the early afternoon. Here, they are sorted and distributed throughout the Netherlands. Consumers receive their parcels the same evening.
Shipping internationally
The company announced last week that it will cross the border. After five years of growth in the Netherlands, Red je Pakketje considers it time for the international shipping market. International shipping is done through subsidiary VanavondBezorgd. Webshops register their shipments with the platform and then deliver their parcels themselves to one of the company's drop-off points. Save Your Parcel picks up the shipments there and takes them to their destination.
