GXO Logistics deploys glove scanners. In its warehouses in the Netherlands, UK, France, Italy and Spain, it uses some 400 scanners with screen display. The logistics provider estimates the time savings compared to conventional handheld equipment at about 4 seconds per scan.

The time saving lies in the fact that the glove is hands-free. These are portable MARK scanners with screen display from ProGlove. GXO uses them for order picking, packaging and handling incoming orders in trial programmes for large e-commerce and DIY customers.

According to the contract logistics player, the handheld scanners provide greater precision in logistics environments where fast throughput is required. Users can see key information such as storage location, product identification and available quantity directly on the glove. The lightweight wearable scanners should also reduce the strain on employees' hands. GXO is integrating the new technology with its warehouse management system and digital tools used in the company's facilities.

Richard Cawston, President GXO Europe, says: "We are always looking for new technology to make our operations more accurate, efficient and secure. By deploying these handheld scanners, we are achieving productivity gains of up to 10 per cent and easing the workload for our warehouse staff."
