Yamaha Corporation is to deploy project44's Ocean Visibility and Port Intel solutions. Yamaha is the world's largest manufacturer of musical instruments and high-quality audio equipment. Using project44's solutions, Yamaha aims to create greater visibility into its global shipments, thereby optimising the supply chain and making it more resilient.

Yamaha ships around 15,000 containers worldwide every year. The company wanted to make its supply chain more stable. This requires good visibility of transport between production plants and distributors. Project44's Ocean Visibility and Port Intel solutions met the criteria Yamaha had. These solutions allow the team to visualise the status of shipments worldwide and see the estimated time of arrival (ETA) very accurately. It also enables faster and better decision-making.

Problems during pandemic

"There were some manufacturers who experienced supply chain issues during the pandemic. We never assumed that these were temporary. Instead, we took the opportunity to re-examine how to function as logistics controllers between all companies," says Tomohiro Kawami, general manager, Logistics Division at Yamaha. "We needed to be able to quickly see the facts, including visualisation of transport status and information on previous performance. We chose to work with project44 after an extensive evaluation."

Kawami continued: "By the end of the last financial year, the implementation of project44 solutions was almost complete and the foundation of the control tower is now being laid. The team is determined to tackle this new way of working together: from reactive to proactive. In addition, we are becoming more data-driven, which was one of the key points of this initiative."

Importance of flexibility

"Supply chain disruptions have caused many shippers to consider the importance of flexibility in their logistics strategy and operations," says Yuji Kuwahara, project44's GM and VP Sales in Japan. "Project44's supply chain visibility platform dramatically improves data quality and visibility for all teams involved. We believe project44 can help Yamaha with collaborative planning and 'exception management', ultimately leading to more satisfied Yamaha customers."
