Executives in transport companies are still struggling to realise cost savings with the deployment of new technologies. This is according to research by Fleet Advantage among 500 belissers at transport companies.

The survey shows that 45 per cent of respondents do not know whether the implementation of technologies has led to cost savings, for example in terms of fuel consumption. "Since the end of the crisis, the transport industry has made significant strides in big data," said Mike Spence, senior vice president at Fleet Advantage.

"The research shows that the amount of data has now become quite extensive. Many industry professionals do not have the tools to analyse the data and make choices based on it to achieve cost savings. For example, today's technology allows us to save more fuel than ever, but fleet managers need to be able to track their performance and realise the cost savings."
