FedEx has introduced an autonomous delivery robot that can climb stairs. The robot lifts the axles of its wheels and can climb up elevations. Even kerbs are no problem.
FedEx plans to test the 'SameDay Bot' around its headquarters in the US city of Memphis. In the future, it wants to use the robot for retailers such as Pizza Hut, Target and Walmart. According to FedEx, 60 per cent of those retailers' customers live up to 4.5 kilometres from a shop.
The robot has six wheels and can reach a speed of 16 kilometres per hour. Using cameras and sensors also found on self-driving cars, the SameDay Bot avoids obstacles.
