De Rooy Warehousing & Distribution is forced to close its distribution centre in Oud Gastel. Disappointing financial results have led to this decision, the logistics provider states in a letter to staff.
The distribution centre on the Borchwerf II industrial estate in Oud Gastel will close its doors no later than 31 March 2020. The property covers an area of 45,000 square metres, intended for the storage and distribution of white goods in the Benelux. De Rooy rents the site. What the property owner will do with the distribution centre is still unclear.
Could have gone bankrupt too'
De Rooy is said to have faced disappointing results this year and previous years. "After much deliberation, the management has come to the conclusion that there is no other option than to close," Jos van Peeren, manager-director a.i. of De Rooy, told BN de Stem. "We could also have chosen to let the company go bankrupt, but we are opting for a neat solution. In doing so, we are consulting with trade unions FNV, CNV and De Unie.''
New work personnel
The staff -the building employs 85 people- were informed about the closure at the end of last week. Work is being sought for them at another location within De Rooy, or at one of the other companies at Borchwerf. Van Peeren: "We will also contact the companies there. All kinds of activities are taking place at Borchwerf and we can provide more than suitable staff for that.''
