Dematic has completed the final phase of the installation and commissioning of a compact automation solution with an AutoStore system for Spain's Grupo Servicio Móvil. This new solution manages the storage of medical supplies for one of the largest hospitals in Madrid.
This project is the result of the ongoing collaboration between the two companies since 2012. Back then, Grupo Servicio Móvil was the first company in Spain to install a Dematic Multishuttle system at its Negreira site to service healthcare customers in that region.
The family-run company headquartered in northwest Spain has been a leading logistics provider for the healthcare sector in Spain for over 30 years and has expanded its operations to national government sectors and historical archives. Grupo Servicio Móvil has built its reputation on delivering high quality services and the service agreements they secure. They rely on providing minimal lead times to meet the requirements of the markets in which their customers operate.
Compact solution
For a healthcare customer in Madrid, Grupo Servicio Móvil installed a warehouse close to the hospital, with high real estate costs, so an efficient and compact automation solution was the top priority. The potential savings in energy costs with AutoStore systems, whose robots use regenerative energy, among other things, are additional benefits.
To meet the hospital's needs, the healthcare logistics specialists needed to automate the storage, collection and sorting processes and improve order picking and sorting accuracy, which will lead to better inventory management and order processing. Other key requirements were flexibility and scalability to adapt to changing needs and future growth opportunities. Dematic's solution met all these aspects.
The compact AutoStore system occupies just 190 square metres and includes three CarouselPort workstations, seven R5 robots and 5,005 totes. The warehouse itself covers an area of 15,000 square metres. Dematic Software is managing the operation of the new automation solution.
