DHL Supply Chain is to commission an additional 5000 autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) from Locus Robotics. The logistics provider has been working for some time with the US robot supplier, which is making significant inroads in Europe. In recent years, more than 250 million items have already been picked and transported by Locus Robotics' robots through DHL Supply Chain's warehouses.
The new agreement is the largest deal for autonomous mobile robots in the logistics sector. The 5,000 new robots will be deployed worldwide in DHL Supply Chain’s warehouses and distribution centres, where order picking takes place for a wide range of customers in e-commerce, retail, pharmaceuticals and healthcare.
Thanks to the robots, the logistics provider will be able to improve employee productivity and shipment quality, while further increasing speed and efficiency.
Scalable
"An idea is only a good idea if it is scalable," says Oscar de Bok, ceo of DHL Supply Chain. "The flexibility and scalability of the Locus solution has helped us meet the changing demands in e-commerce and offer our customers an even better experience."
"The addition of Locus Robotics' autonomous mobile robots to our network is an important milestone in our digitalisation journey," said Markus Voss, cio and coo of DHL Supply Chain. "By using advanced robotics and data intelligence, we can further improve our operational efficiency and process our orders faster."
DHL has now picked more than 250 million units using the LocusONE solution. The implementation of the new LocusBots is expected to be fully integrated into DHL Supply Chain's operations by the end of the year.
