Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam (ECT) and port community platform Portbase have started a pilot to share container data earlier. They are using arrangement system iSHARE for this purpose.
The pilot is being conducted in collaboration with shippers Nature's Pride and Total Produce. They work with fresh produce and benefit from accurate information on the status of their container during the unloading process at the terminal.
Manual work
In the current situation, a shipper or forwarder receives information from a terminal about a specific container only after entering various data, including a PIN code. This information is not available to all parties by default because it is not immediately known who is allowed to share information with whom. This results in a lot of manual work and parties often do not have this PIN code until late.
Pilot iSHARE
In the pilot, ECT is providing container data earlier and securely to shippers Nature's Pride and Total Produce. In doing so, ECT uses data from Portbase's port community system. With the consent of a container owner, Portbase shares information about the container with the terminal. ECT then automatically makes the information available via a new portal to authorised users of the pilot participants.
For consent and secure identification, the pilot uses iSHARE technical specifications. The iSHARE arrangement system, initiated by the Top Sector Logistics, enables logistics companies to share data in a uniform and controlled way.
