Vanderlande and Fizyr are joining forces, with the two companies set to develop articifial intelligence (AI) technology for the Veghel-based company's existing robotic solutions.
The results of the collaboration will integrate Vanderlande and Fizyr into Vanderlande's current product portfolio, such as the Smart Item Robot (SIR). This robotic application can automatically pick a large number of goods, but some items still require an employee.
High degree of variation
With the deployment of AI, the Smart Item Robot can learn to deal with different types of products. "The use of robotics in logistics is extremely complex due to the variety of goods being handled, for example in shape, size, colour and material," says Fizyr CEO Herbert ten Have. "By applying deep learning software, we can identify the best gripping location for a robot to handle a high degree of variation."

Potential for existing robot solutions
Vanderlande octo Vincent Kwaks says he is excited about the future of this "dynamic sector". "Deep learning has changed our landscape in recent years and multiple applications will benefit from these techniques. Therefore, we are happy to work with Fizyr to explore the potential for our robotic solutions and perhaps other automation domains."
