GXO continues to test new robotic solutions. In Oosterhout, the logistics provider conducted a successful trial of Dexory, a robot that autonomously navigates through the warehouse and inventories stock. GXO now wants to deploy the robot in other warehouses in Europe and the United States.
GXO uses various automation and robotisation solutions, from complex shuttle systems and pocket sorters to autonomous mobile robots that walk with order pickers as they move around the warehouse. Dexory is a robot from a British startup of the same name that was already on display at the German trade fair LogiMAT last year.
10,000 pallets per hour
Dexory is equipped with intelligent cameras and sensors that make detailed 3D scans of the warehouse up to a height of 13 metres. By scanning the labels and barcodes on pallets and boxes at a rate of 10,000 pallets per hour, the robot collects enough data in a short time to give a picture of the stock and space available.
"With Dexory, we have developed a solution that can navigate the physical complexity of a warehouse to deliver more accurate stock control and better customer service. This approach eliminates manual stock checks and cycle counting while increasing safety for our team members," says Willem Veekens, managing director of GXO Belgium, the Netherlands and Scandinavia.
Incubator programme
GXO has set up an Operational Incubator programme for such pilot projects. Within that programme, it works closely with innovative parties to validate practical applications, using the warehouse as a laboratory. The aim is to widely deploy new technology in GXO's operations, reducing capacity constraints and enabling GXO's team members to perform more satisfying tasks.
