Eyewear chain Hans Anders has deployed an RFID solution to inventory its shop stock. By RFID tagging all eyewear, service levels in shops can be increased and shop stock is available for online sales.
CaptureTech developed the RFID solution for Hans Anders. The eyewear shop said it urgently needed a different approach. Until recently, inventories were only taken once a year, "The reason being that it was a very time-consuming job with high costs," explains Karin van Braam, director Merchandise Planning & Category Management at Hans Anders.
Inventory took a whole day
"The inventory had to be done outside shop opening hours and quickly took an entire day with several employees," says Hans Anders. On top of that, Hans Anders' frames were not labelled: only on the inside of the frame was an item number, which meant the spectacle frames had to be removed from the displays to identify them.
Swiping past the frames
Spectacles are now equipped with an RFID label showing the model, item number and possibly the price. The chip in the label is additionally provided with a code that makes each frame unique. With an RFID handheld, the shop assistant can swipe past the frames and the inventory is done within minutes. The inventoried data is then processed in Hans Anders' ERP.
Van Braam: "The RFID solution provided increases the reliability of the stocks in our shops. Making shop stock available for online sales and vice versa contributes to our omnichannel strategy."
