Dachser in Waddinxveen is to commission yet another new warehouse for contract logistics. Construction of the building is in full swing and is expected to be completed in June 2024. The new warehouse will provide space for 10,000 pallets, bringing Dachser's total storage capacity in Waddinxveen to 55,000 pallet spaces.

The warehouse will be built at the Distripark Doelwijk on the A12 motorway. Dachser has been well represented at the industrial park for years with several premises. The new warehouse brings the total number of premises at this location to five. The strategic location on the A12, also known as the A12 corridor, is close to the port of Rotterdam and Schiphol Airport.

The logistics provider acted quickly when this opportunity came along. "In recent years, many companies have been added to the industrial estate. This new warehouse is therefore a great outcome. It helps us meet the growing demand for storage space and ensures that we are ready for the future," says Edwin Vermeulen, general manager Dachser Logistics Center Rotterdam. "As a reliable logistics partner, we want to offer our customers stability and flexibility. With this new warehouse, we can not only meet the increasing demand, but also switch faster in the future."

Everything in one place

Another special feature of the new warehouse is that it is within walking distance of Dachser's other four premises in Waddinxveen. Different activities take place in these premises: Air & Sea Logistics, Contract Logistics and Road Logistics. "This means we have everything close together, which works very efficiently for our European distribution activities. Our colleagues working in the different buildings know each other well and work together as one big family. Having everything in one place eliminates the pick-up process, for example. This allows us to offer our customers even faster and more reliable lead times. Moreover, customers have one central point of contact for all activities."

In 2020, the logistics provider already opened a brand new warehouse for contract logistics in Waddinxveen. Recent years have shown that the combination of the innovative developments within the Contract Logistics division and the strategic location proved to be an ideal match. The aim at the time was to create space for the strong growth in contract logistics and to strengthen the synergy between warehousing and distribution activities. With the new warehouse, the logistics provider is even better placed to pursue this course.

Knowledge in stock

Not only in Waddinxveen is Dachser expanding its storage capacity. On the other side of the Netherlands, also on the A12 and close to the Ruhr, the Dachser site in Zevenaar started up contract logistics last year. The team in Zevenaar first focused thoroughly on acquiring all the necessary knowledge, competences and systems for contract logistics. As this was a new step for the branch, they took good time to prepare everything in detail. Then the warehouse was put into operation from March 2023 and, with an area of 10,000 square metres, offers space for 20,000 pallets.

While the smell of fresh concrete was still in the air, the first truck already drove onto the site. What initially started with just a single trailer soon grew into several trailers a day. For the successful start-up, the Zevenaar site made use not only of the competences within Dachser's global network in the field of contract logistics, but also of the local knowledge and experience gained over the past years by the colleagues at the Waddinxveen site.
